Concepts and Ideas
Here are the initial concepts and ideas behind the Open-DO initiative. Cyrille Comar gave this presentation at the Do-178C committee meeting in Cologne yesterday. It was a good crowd and a great presentation, lots of enthusiasm and excitement after. Thanks Cyrille!

I am interested to know why MBD is playing a prominent role in DO178C.

MDB is not playing a prominent role in DO-178C, or at least not more prominent than other approaches considered in the supplements (formal methods, object-oriented design, etc.). However, the new version of the standard acknowledges that MBD is used more and more and that there is a a general lack of knowledge on how to use it for the development of safety critical software. In particular, the Model-based Design supplement of DO-178C deals on how to meet the objectives of each criticality level when the artifacts (high-level requirements, low-level requirements, implementation, tests, etc.) are in the form of models. For example: if the implementation is in the form of a model, how do you measure coverage?
